BRISTOL FAIR TRADE NETWORK

Fairtrade Project Award 2025 Launch
1:00 pm Saturday 27th September
Our Arts Commission in partnership with Sparks Bristol was very successful and we are delighted to announce that the commission has been awarded to local artist Emily Gibbard. Emily has produced a beautiful piece celebrating Women in Coffee. Being part of Fairtrade brings great benefits for women in coffee growing including education, financial independence and a chance to take positions of power in their cooperatives.
With great timing as part of Fairtrade Fortnight this piece is in place in Sparks and there will be a grand official launch at 1pm on Saturday 27th September.

Then between 1pm and 3pm you can make your own clay piece to add to the artwork – with Emily on hand to support you. This activity will be open to children and adults – so come on down and get creating with clay.
Along side this will be a Bristol Fair Trade Network stall with lots more fun activities for children – and maybe some chocolate.
Fairtrade is a different way of doing trade – one that seeks to combat the injustices that can be present in conventional trade and put people first. Fairtrade works with agreed, international standards designed and audited to ensure that producers in developing countries get a better deal. With a fair price that covers the costs of production and an additional social premium for producer groups to invest in projects they decide will bring the greatest local benefits, such as education, health care and fresh water. Bristol Fair Trade Network works with primary producers, businesses, local authorities, consumers and local people to promote the awareness, the retailing, the sales and the consumption of Fairtrade in the city.
2025 is the 20th Anniversary of Bristol being a Fairtrade city, so we want to use the occasion to highlight how 20 years of promoting the benefits of Fairtrade has helped to make the FAIRTRADE Mark a leader of life-changing impact for farmers and workers across the world.
Fairtrade Fortnight will be from Monday 22nd September – Sunday 5th October 2025.
Sparks Bristol is a sustainability hub in the ex-M&S building in Broadmead Bristol which attracts on average 9,000 visitors per week.
