Dear friends,
It won’t surprise you to hear that the South West Fair Trade Business Awards 2020 will be postponed, no longer taking place on 15th May as scheduled. We are in the process of finding a new date to hold the ceremony, which we hope will take place later in the year.
In light of the delay, we’ll also be extending our application period indefinitely for the time being, fixing a new date once we know when the ceremony will be held.
As well as allowing us to plan with more certainty, the postponement of the Awards recognises that our applicants—many of whom represent independent businesses—are facing tremendous challenges in the coming weeks, and will have unforeseen priorities. Our support of local, independent businesses at this time is vital and when they do return, the Awards will be a louder voice than ever for local organisations with an ethical outlook.
As a supporter of the Fair Trade movement, you’re already supporting a system that strives for resilience in times of crisis. Fair Trade promotes responsible consumerism, small scale economies, and gives producers in the global south the power to pay for healthcare for their families, their communities and their workforce. As the current situation reveals vulnerabilities and strengths in our normal way of doing business, your support of Fair Trade is more critical than ever before.
Please stay tuned for a new date for the Awards, and thank you so much for your continued support. We look forward to bringing the very best of Fair and Local to you in the coming months.
With the best of wishes,
Danni
Coordinator of the Bristol Fair Trade Network and the South West Fair Trade Business Awards
